Sustainability
Sustainability & climate action plan
Toynbee School is committed to building a more sustainable, climate-resilient, and environmentally responsible future for our pupils, staff, and wider community. We are developing a whole-school approach that places environmental responsibility at the heart of what we do.
Our Climate Action Plan will outline how we intend to reduce our environmental impact, enhance natural spaces, strengthen climate education, and ensure our school is resilient to a changing climate. As this plan evolves, we will continue to communicate our progress and outline the steps we will take to achieve our long-term sustainability goals.
What have we done already?

our sustainability ambitions
Decarbonisation & Net Zero
We aim to develop a clear pathway that will help the school reduce its carbon footprint over time. This includes understanding our current energy use, identifying opportunities to operate more efficiently, and exploring ways to move toward a lower-carbon future.
We are registered with Let's Go Zero and aspire to achieve Net Zero by 2030.
Biodiversity & Nature Enhancement
We are committed to nurturing our school grounds so they can support richer biodiversity, offer meaningful outdoor learning opportunities, and strengthen pupils’ connection with the natural environment.
Climate Education & Green Skills
Sustainability will become increasingly embedded across the learning experience at Toynbee School. Our ambition is that all pupils develop the knowledge, values, and skills needed to engage confidently with environmental issues and emerging green careers. We are fortunate to already have a passionate and active group of pupils who will play a central role in shaping this work.
Adaptation & Climate Resilience
We aim to ensure that our school buildings and operations are prepared for future climate challenges. This includes understanding the risks posed by extreme weather and planning for long‑term resilience to protect our learning environment and community.
