Music Lessons

If you would like to sign your child up for instrumental/vocal tuition, please read the information and terms below, and fill in the form linked at the bottom of this page. By signing up for tuition, you are agreeing to the terms below.

We are proud to offer a range of instrumental and vocal tuition at Toynbee. Pupils progress through Grade and Hampshire Stage exams and the display boards in the Music area demonstrate the high levels of progress our pupils are making. In addition to instrumental lessons, we also run an after school Grade 5 Theory class, which prepares pupils for both higher grade exams and Music at 6th form college.

Instrumental/Singing lessons take place during the school day and last for 20 minutes. Your child will follow an instrumental lesson timetable, which will ensure that they are not coming out of the same curriculum lesson each week. We cannot currently provide this rotation system for string or brass lessons.  Parents sometimes worry that attending music lessons will cause their child to fall behind with their progress in other subjects.  Educational research continues to demonstrate that pupils who learn a musical instrument tend to do better academically in all subject areas.

At Toynbee, we believe every child should have access to instrumental/singing lessons.  To support this, we have maintained a very competitive price for lessons:

GCSE Music Pupils - £60 per term

Key Stage 3 Pupils and Key Stage 4 not taking Music - £100 per term

Payments should be made online using the Tucasi online payment system. Payments can be made at the beginning of the school year for the full amount, or termly.

The amount charged guarantees pupils a minimum of 30 lessons throughout the academic year. However, pupils end usually end up receiving at least 32. Because of this, refunds are not given for the rare occurrences of staff absence or inset days.

If pupils do not wish to continue lessons, this must be sent in writing from the parent to Miss Parrott via email. Without this confirmation, refunds will not be given.

Reminders will be sent when payment is due. If payment is not received in a timely manner, pupils will be withdrawn from lessons until payment is made.

If a pupil misses three consecutive lessons, you will be contacted via email

We currently offer the following instrumental lessons:
